Workshop/Course Description:
The Trilingual Interpreter: Language, Identity & Practice is the first workshop in a comprehensive three-part series designed to provide language and forward-thinking frameworks for multilingual interpreting work. This session explores the intersections of language, culture, identity, and professional practice within trilingual interpreting. Participants will examine the influence of Latin American and Spanish-speaking cultures alongside American value systems, linguistic variation and register, cultural and sociolinguistic power, and the complexities of nuanced, non-literal communication. The workshop will also explore Deaf immigration and the American Deaf experience, including the ways family dynamics and perceptions can influence language acquisition and use. Through reflection and interactive scenarios, participants will practice navigating real-time register shifts while developing greater awareness of their own identities and experiences within the interpreting profession.
Live workshop will be held November 1, 2026 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET via Zoom.
